The Edible Acre is helping to rebuild local food economies

We believe that changing the way we produce and distribute food is fundamental to solving the world’s most pressing social and ecological problems.

About The Edible Acre

We are Nicky & Lily, a mother/daughter duo.

The Edible Acre is a regenerative no-dig market garden set over two sites in Dorset growing nutrient dense vegetables for our veg box scheme, local chefs & restaurants.

We work with the land in a re-generative way, using agroecological principles to create an abundant garden and nourishing food. We specialise in salad, herbs, an array of vegetables and interesting and heritage variety tomatoes. Growing vegetables has always been a fundamental in our lives and creating The Edible Acre has been a chance for us to share this foundation and get fresh, quality & local produce to our community.

Fair prices for farmers and artisan food producers is vital

We pay our suppliers at least 50% of the retail value for any products we buy in, and when dealing with wholesalers, we check to make sure they pay fair prices to their growers.

The benefits of buying local

Local food supports local economies. Food grown in the local community supports local jobs and encourages variety in our diets. It also requires less transportation, so it's fresher and has a smaller environmental footprint.
